Why bother?
August 11th, 2007
I was looking through a book of cartoons by Tohby Riddle, and found one that answers the question of ‘why I am doing this?’ perfectly. As the saying goes, a picture says a 1,000 words.
It is one thing to say you are going to do something, but another to actually do it. There are so many cool things to try in life, but getting up to try them is often the hardest part.
So I set myself this challenge, to get me off the couch and out experiencing what the world has to offer. And maybe encourage others to do the same.
As the famous quote goes, ‘Get busy living, or get busy dying.’
Cartoon used with Tohby’s permission.

I’ve got a goal for you – GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of your goals are lame and don’t require much effort at all. What’s so difficult about visiting your brother in Warrnambool when you live in Melbourne, Australia (not Florida), you could do it in a day it’s only down the road. Now doing the Melbourne to Warrnambool bike race would be an achievement.
Go to an ANZAC day dawn service? With the tens of thousands of other people that do it every year, why not try to go to a dawn service every year till your 30 (my Grandfather’s goes to a Dawn service every year without fail).

He’s doing 183 things mate, they don’t all have to be exceptionally world-beating things you know.
What are you doing Fred?

i think its a great idea. people who work all the time lose sight of what’s important in life. its about the journey, not the destination. life experiences make you who you are, but you don’t need a list to tell you that. i’m sure after project 183, you’ll continue living life to the fullest. carpe diem and all that..
good luck with your 2013 deadline.

Number 1 goal for Fred Flinstone:
To not be a tool!
I like this idea and will happily steal it

Great cartoon. Do you think you should have done the IQ EQ test first?

Man,
I have also a list of things to do mine however spans over the course of my life.
Just want to say that it doesn’t matter what the goals are as long as they are what it is you want to do! people may rag on you for the ease of some of your goals but if it completes you as a person then why the hell not!
Some of mine are very basic and easy to most people but it’s something I’ve never done and would never forgive myself if i didn’t get around to doing
So I give two very enthusiastic thumbs up and commend you on your efforts. If you only get 50% done you are way way ahead of most people
The only thing I would have added is to run with the bulls in Pamplona!

I haven’t done the EQ or IQ tests (unless you count the Facebook one, but I don’t know how official it is).

Nice cartoon and how true!!!
How many people are really living the dreams of their life?
Most of the time, people are too afraid to do what they want to do until it is too late.

I’m not sure if this creates more inspiration or perspiration (in that I’m starting to break into a sweat over my procrastinations).
Either way, the message is true and hard hitting.
Anything that gets us moving that doesn’t come from physical pain is usually a good thing.
Thanks

Awesome cartoon. There will never be more time and so we need to make time for the things that truly make us happy, this way we will be able to live in the present or at least I think so.

This is great! Helped me to start developing my Life List. It’s still in progress, but can be found here: http://conchsaladesque.wordpress.com/life-list/

I’m definitely not living my dream life, but it’s a work in progress and I definitely appreciate all of the times that I do get to do the things that I am passionate about.
