New oven bought

September 1st, 2007

Goal 138 (Renovate my unit with air-conditioning, new oven and new paint job) is rather a boring one, but one that I would like to do to improve the condition of the apartment I own in St Kilda (near Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne).

There are three parts to this goal, which are to install air-con, install a new oven, and give the whole place a new coat of paint, to cover up some of the cracks in the wall.

Part 2 is now done - brand-spanking new oven is now installed, and the current tenant is loving it. Certainly a nice change from the one that I used to have there, which was from the 1970s and had no temperature gauge.

Thus ends an extremely boring post!

The new seven wonders

September 1st, 2007

On July 7, 2007 (07.07.07) the results of a worldwide vote were announced at the Declaration Ceremony, proclaiming what the world has chosen as the new seven wonders of the world.

Being a keen traveller, I decided that to see each of these new wonders would be a great goal to achieve as part of Project 183. So I made it Goal 40 on my list.

Here are the seven new wonders in no particular order. Luckily, I had already done one before they were announced, so there were just six to go.

1. Macchu Picchu in Peru

2. Taj Mahal in India - Completed January 2004, on a visit with a friend to India and Nepal. This is very deserved of its place as a new wonder.

3. Chichen Itza in Mexico

4. Christ Redeemer in Brazil

5. Great Wall of China in China

6. Colosseum in Italy - Completed July 2007, on a trip to Europe with Nat. So much history attached to it, as well as the rest of the Roman Forum that surrounds it. Didn’t bump in to Russell Crowe though.

7. Petra in Jordan

Avoid the lift

August 22nd, 2007

(This goal is now complete - see DONE post)

When I arrived back from a recent trip to Europe at the end of July 2007, I commenced goal 129 (avoid the lifts at work for six consecutive months). This I am doing for the exercise benefit, giving I spend most of my day sitting at my desk in front of a computer. If I can avoid the lifts for six months, that should really get me in the habit of avoiding them all the time in future.

I work on the second floor, and we have a six storey car park, so there are quite a few stairs to travel in between.

If I can avoid the lifts until the end of January 2008, the goal shall be achieved.

I have set two allowable lift-using circumstances:

1. If I am with someone else who wishes to use the lift. It would seem very rude to stop mid-conversation to take the stairs while they travel in the lift.

2. If I carrying something above 5kg in weight.

Unicycle purchase made

August 18th, 2007

The first step to completing goal 80 (learn to ride a unicycle) is to buy a unicycle. This one pictured is my little blue and yellow beauty. She was purchased for the bargain price of $20 from Lauren at work (thanks Lauren).

I have been told that if I practise for just 15 minutes a day for a couple of weeks, I should be able to ride it well enough to say the goal is completed. Only time will tell if this theory is true.
