Melbourne’s best toilets

June 21st, 2008

When I was on Sunrise with Mel and Kochie last Wednesday, they set me a challenge. Have a look at the video, and their reactions when I ask for some free flights up to Sydney!

Here is what I will be scoring on:- Opening/closing hours

- Overall cleanliness

- Quantity of toilets

- Toilet paper quality

- Availability of showers/baby changerooms

- Ease of access

- Graffiti levels

- Availability of hot water

- Presence of a bin

Does anyone have any suggestions for additional criteria, public toilets they think are worthy of being in the top ten list, or would like to be part of the expedition to find the top ten?

UPDATE

Three more criteria to add to the list (I will probably reduce the final list later)

- Smell

- Layout of the bathroom (not too cramped)

- Availability of soap

Thanks to Rachel and Sarah for the suggestions.

    hey heath!

hahaha. nice score on the free flights! I reckon you should definitely rate the smell of the toilets - pleasant/gaggy - and also coolness of toilet & restroom design (eg. no gaps between door and wall).

Being a big (water) drinker, I frequent toilets a lot- and the other day I had the experience of using the toilets in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney. MAN, they’re AMAZING!!! Well, the womens’ toilets were, anyway. It was all tiled, well lit up, and split level, with a shiny stone basin that was flat and angled to drain out (I think), with sensored taps. Cool hand dryers too!

looking forward to hearing the results!

Perhaps you should include whether they a soap dispenser. Also, whether the soap dispenser actually HAS soap in it!! It’s amazing how many don’t.
Look forward to seeing the results.

    Bathrooms:

I would recommend a local bathroom is on the 31rst floor that is part of a top tier restuarant at the Nauro building on Collins. (sorry I can’t remember the name of the restuarant) There is a ground to ceiling window that gives you unreal views from the 31rst floor as you do your bathroom requirements. At the same time you can knock off part of your restuarant goal.
